Green Rails

The "green rails"concept is based on a circular economy model.

Saarstahl Ascoval recycles scrap metal, particularly from the Saarstahl rail plant in Hayange and from rail networks such as SNCF and Infrabel and remelts it in its electric arc furnace and produces high-quality steel delivered in bar form to the Hayange plant, which uses it to manufacture new "green" rails by rolling.

The entire manufacturing process for these green rails is particularly environmentally friendly, as it generates 60% to 90% less C02 emissions than a conventional manufacturing process using iron ore and coal as raw materials.
